Heeding the Call of the Underworld

On Descending.

To descend is to discover,

to reclaim wisdom from the darkness.

The Autumn Equinox is a gateway and an invitation to journey within; to descend and discover...

If we allow it, time slows on this descent as we walk with ancient beings of strata, statlight and stone, traveling through vast epochs of the Earth.

There is more truth and life to be found in this deep surrendering to the dark than can be guessed in our rapid daily fluttering. This is why each year, at the Autumn Equinox, Persephone bids the overworld farewell and journeys within to death, her lover, and to reclaim her crown.

It was the Autumn Equinox, many moons ago, when I committed to my path of magic and discovery, when I chose to join a group of like-minded souls, who are, for the most part, still my trusted circle of magical allies and friends today. The equal day and night of the Equinox is a gateway, inviting us within or without, depending on the season. This year's eclipses amplified the gateway, which perhaps illuminated or kick-started our underworld journeys.

In a time that encourages us to fret, be afraid, accuse, and separate, it is even more important to heed Persephone's call, and to descend into the soft darkness, to walk the slow tectonic waves of the land, to see the life and memory of stone, the lessons of tide, and gather round the deep fire of communion.

From these places, we feel the trembling of our own soul threads and know the holy light of possibility shimmers in our veins.

To discover is to descend,

to reclaim wisdom from the darkness,

which, in its time, is revealed to the light.
